Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)

As best practice, every graduate student and postdoc should complete an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and update it annually.

Here is a sample format of an IPDP for Mizzou grad students, developed by Dr. Robin G. Walker. Alternatively, here is a sample plan developed for GRAD 9050 and other students who have completed a Strengthsquest inventory.

For science majors, my Individual Development Plan (myIDP) will help you explore career possibilities and set goals to follow the career path that fits you best. The site includes a confidential self-assessment of your skills, values and interests. From the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a trusted source.

The University of Minnesota offers an Individual Development Plans for grad students and one with an interdisciplinary focus.

For postdocs, here’s and IDP template from the University of North Carolina.

Similarly, the University of Wisconsin – Madison offers this page on Individual Development Plans
