McNair Scholars Program
2016-17 Cohort of McNair Scholars with Program Director, Dr. NaTashua Davis and Program Coordinator, Jeremy Bloss
The purpose of the MU McNair Scholars Program is to prepare eligible MU juniors and seniors for doctoral study. The program thus provides various services, resources and activities designed to assist scholars in gaining the skills and tools needed to successfully apply, pursue and complete a graduate degree.
One of the most exciting aspects of the program is the opportunity for participants to conduct independent research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. McNair scholars also participate in GRE preparation seminars; receive support through the graduate school application process; obtain information on securing fellowships and graduate assistantships; and engage in other scholarly activities designed to facilitate a smooth transition into graduate-level work leading to the PhD.
“The McNair program was incredible and I will be encouraging any and all undergraduates from first-generation or minority backgrounds to apply whether they have research in mind or not. I met some of my greatest friends in college in this program and ultimately it helped sculpt me into someone ready for graduate school and also gave me the final concept of what I want to do in graduate school. I cannot wait.”
“Dr. Hurt was a fantastic mentor and I greatly appreciate the work he put into helping me. Without him, grad school would not have been as likely. McNair helped me get a sense of what the next level of academia was like and the work that would be involved.”
“McNair helped me realize that I was ready for graduate study and it helped me prepare for the next level in academia.”
