Student Medical Insurance Subsidy Amount & Coverage
Medical insurance subsidy coverage
The amount of the subsidy a qualifying graduate student receives depends on type of position the student holds.
|Type of Position||Level of Subsidy (domestic plan)|
Graduate Research Assistants (GRA), Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) and Graduate Instructors with at least a 20-hour-per-week (0.50 FTE) position
Graduate fellows with qualifying fellowships
Graduate Research Assistants (GRA), Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) and Graduate Instructors with at least a 10-hour-per-week (0.25 FTE), but less than 20-hour-per-week position
Spouses and dependents
The medical insurance subsidy applies only to coverage for a qualifying student. Any coverage of a spouse or children on the policy is subject to the regular, unsubsidized premium. The policy selected for the spouse and/or children must be the same as the student's policy, and only the student's premium is subsidized.
The subsidy applies only for students who qualify for and enroll in the campus-wide insurance policy that is offered to all MU students. The subsidy may not be used for any other insurance policy.
Insurance for international students
The policy offered through the International Center is mandatory for international students, and international students who qualify may receive a subsidy. International students who hold assistantships or other qualifying positions are not eligible for domestic insurance policies.
