Each year, the Graduate School organizes a number of events for Directors of Graduate School and program contacts. Additional resources to support their work are also available on a Canvas organization.

DGS Orientation

Each fall, new DGSs and program contacts are invited to attend an orientation in August to assist them in their new roles.

This is also an opportunity to meet new faculty and staff, as well as representatives from the Graduate School. If you miss orientation, then you can access orientation materials on the DGS Resources Canvas site.

DGS Summit

All DGSs and contacts (new and returning) are invited to learn about current issues in graduate education and new resources available to them. The DGS Summit is scheduled near the beginning of the fall semester. The Summit is also a chance to collaborate across units and provide feedback to the Graduate School.

The 2023 Graduate School Annual Summit is Thursday, September 21st, 8:30 – 11:00 AM. Registration for the Summit was emailed to DGSs and Grad Program Contacts. If you have questions about the Summit, please email the Associate Dean of the Graduate School.

DGS Network Meetings

DGS network meetings are scheduled throughout the academic year and are a continuation of networking and professional development specifically for DGSs and program contacts beyond the DGS/Graduate Contacts Summit. Some events may be appropriate to invite select graduate faculty to attend with you. If you have ideas or pertinent topics for DGS Network meetings, contact the Associate Dean of the Graduate School. The information for upcoming sessions will be emailed to DGSs and Grad Program Contacts toward the start of each semester.

DGS and Contacts Resource Account

The Graduate School regularly communicates with DGSs and program contacts via email. The Graduate School uses this email communication with DGSs and program contacts to share information critical to graduate students, including deadlines, events, resources, and policy changes. DGSs and contacts should then share necessary information with graduate students in their departments and programs. This allows units to communicate the information directly to their graduate students and limits the number of direct communications that graduate students receive from the Graduate School. Students do receive occasional direct communications from the Graduate School, such as emails about commencement. If you have a message you’d like to share via this Resource Account, then please contact the Associate Dean of the Graduate School.
