Total Credit Hours:  12

Certificate description: It is estimated that by the year 2030, the world will use an additional IS Trillion KWH of electricity over what the entire world used in the year 2000; the world will use 34 million barrels of liquid fuel each day which is three times the current oil production of Saudi Arabia; and will use more than double the natural gas used by the world in 1995. These numbers indicate that it is imperative that we use energy judiciously and efficiently since we do not have unlimited supplies of conventional fuel and energy use affects the environment and humankind. The subject of Energy is highly interdisciplinary and involves various engineering branches, manufacturing, policy, business, etc. This fact also raises the scenario that we cannot continue with education and training as usual to achieve our objective of efficient energy use and a sustained and reliable supply of energy. For this reason we intend to offer a Graduate Certificate in “Sustainable Energy and Policy”. The five courses that would be offered under this certificate are: Renewable Energy; Agriculture Energy Efficiency; Energy Economics; Sustainable Energy; and Policy Industrial Energy Analysis.
