Vice Provost for Advanced Studies and
Dean of the Graduate School

The University of Missouri (MU), located in Columbia, Missouri, seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the position of Vice Provost for Advanced Studies and Dean of the Graduate School. The position reports directly to the Provost, is an integral part of the Provost’s Staff and the Council of Deans, and maintains positive relationships with the Office of Research.

This innovative teacher/scholar/administrator will provide leadership and strong advocacy for graduate and professional education, and will be responsible for: effective recruitment; strategic and innovative interdisciplinary programs; effective economic development activities; initiatives contributing to campus diversity, professional, and career development; prominence of graduate and professional education in strategic planning, enrollment management, and communications; collecting data on graduate education and promoting best practices in graduate education; positioning graduate and professional education with alumni, philanthropic, political, and other stakeholders; the highest standards of quality for graduate and professional education through collaboration with directors of graduate studies, chairs, center directors, and other academic administrators; collaboration with the Graduate Faculty Senate and the Graduate Student Associations on issues vital to graduate and professional education; providing leadership and vision for future developments in graduate education both at MU and nationally. MU will soon be engaging in a major development campaign and the Dean will be expected to devote a substantial amount of his/her time to development activities.

MU, the flagship of the four-campus University of Missouri System, is one of the most comprehensive universities in the United States, and is located in Columbia, Missouri, one of America’s most livable cities. It is an AAU, Doctoral/Research Extensive, and Land-Grant institution with over 34,000 students. The number of graduate students enrolled at MU for fall 2013 is 6,439.  Of those, 2,589 are doctoral students in 71 different doctoral programs.
