Art History & Archaeology
The University of Missouri has played a prominent role in the teaching of the visual arts in North America since Walter Miller and John Pickard first began lecturing on campus in the 1890s. The graduate degree in Art History and Archaeology is offered by faculty in the Art History Program of the School of Visual Studies and in the Department of Ancient Mediterranean Studies. Our faculty reflect the widening scope of our discipline with particular strengths in the areas of classical Mediterranean archaeology, medieval art and early modern art, and the art and architecture of modern Europe and the Americas. Current faculty research interests range from early Greece and Rome to modern painting and sculpture. Resources available to faculty and students include the Museum of Art and Archaeology and the extensive collections of Ellis Library.
