Typically you will submit a your resume when applying for a job in business, industry, government or the non-profit sector.
But an ordinary résumé will NOT help you secure an interview. Instead you must customize your résumé for the specific position you want. Do these three things:
- Highlight the exact disciplinary knowledge, skills and abilities you possess that are listed in the job description,
- Strategically add the transferable skills you possess that match the position and set you apart from other applicants, and
- Make certain there are no typos or grammatical errors.
If you need a great example of how to customize your résumé for different types of jobs, see this article by The Muse.
