CV's & Resumes

In the U.S., your resume and CV are two different document types that represent your professional identity.

In other countries, the terms CV and resume are often interchangeable names for the same type of document.

The lesson is this: Follow the acceptable format and common terminology used by professionals in the country where you will be applying for a position.

Even if you have already developed a U.S.-style resume or CV, this section will be helpful. You need to make certain that your document is attractive, precise and targeted for a specific job announcement.

  • Have you included a professional summary at the top of your resume?
  • What about a skills section?
  • How have you addressed your teaching and research interests?

This section will help you build a basic U.S.-style CV or resume and explains the difference between the two.
