Campus Diversity Resources and Training Programs

The Division of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity offers grad students, postdocs and faculty many opportunities to strengthen skills in the areas of inclusion, diversity awareness, and cross-cultural competency. Here is their interactive chart of professional development opportunities  - both online and in person training. Topics available to students include:

Within the Division is the Office for Civil Rights & Title IX, which is responsible for enforcing the university’s non-discrimination policies ; educates the community about our policies and practices; connects people to resources that can support them if they experience discrimination or retaliation and listens to the concerns of the campus community. They also offer educational resources.

The Disability Center works to ensure that all students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to a quality education. This requires the commitment of the entire university.  Providing access, whether through specific accommodations or through implementation of universal design for learning, is a partnership among faculty, staff and students. Training materials are available for fauclty, instructors & TA's. 

The African-American Experience in Missouri Lecture Series This series offers the Mizzou and Columbia community opportunities to gain a new understanding of present-day Missouri by learning about the history of African Americans within the state. This series is a collaboration between the Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity and the State Historical Society of Missouri's Center for Missouri Studies

MU's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Resource Center aims to  meet the needs of Mizzou’s campus. They offer a number of awareness and training programs, a library and extensive LGBTQ resources for health, mental health and safety.

Green Dot Trainingexternal link—The Green Dot program promotes safety for everyone and communicates utter intolerance for rape, domestic violence, child abuse and stalking. To request training, fill out this online formexternal link or contact the RSVP Center at 573-882-6638 or rsvp@missouri.edu.

Diversity Peer Educators—Diversity Peer Educators offer cultural sensitivity education and training to cultivate a greater sense of respect and understanding of culture. This program challenges students to look at cultural assumptions, stereotyping, and the different "isms" everyone faces, with a critical eye. Safe Space Trainingexternal link—Participants in the training learn about the challenges of homophobia, campus resources, and how to be supportive to members of the LGBTQ community. At the conclusion of the training, participants have the option to display a Safe Space symbol as a signal to LGBTQ individuals that they maintain a safe and affirming environment.

Lunch and Learn Series

Monthly meetings designed to encourage the use of diverse texts and an inclusive approach in praxis that is relevant to underrepresented communities.

Open to grad students, postdocs and faculty.
