Donald K. Anderson Awards

Donald K. Anderson Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Research Assistant Awards

The Office of Graduate Studies will begin accepting nominations for the Donald K. Anderson Graduate Teaching Assistant Award and the Donald K. Anderson Graduate Research Assistant Awards December 1.

A department may nominate one graduate student for the Donald K. Anderson Graduate Teaching Assistant Award and one graduate student for the Donald K. Anderson Graduate Research Assistant Award.  Nominees must have held the designated assistantship during the previous calendar year (either spring or fall semester or both semesters).

Winners of the Donald K. Anderson awards will be recognized at Graduate Awards Banquet held in April. The awards will consist of an honorarium ($500-$1,000 depending on the number of awardees) and an appropriately inscribed memento. The names of award recipients will be displayed on a permanent plaque in the Office of Graduate Studies.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Award

Nomination Requirements

Eligibility

MU graduate teaching assistants with at least .25 FTE appointments during the calendar year, either the fall or spring semester are eligible for this award. Winners will receive an honorarium of $500/$1,000, depending on the number of selectees.

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of demonstrated excellence and lasting impact in the following areas:

  • Successful classroom performance
  • Enthusiasm and commitment
  • Satisfactory progress toward a degree
  • Mentoring to peers and/or undergraduates

Winners will be selected by the Academic Affairs Committee of the Graduate Faculty Senate.

Minimum Requirements for Nominations

Nomination packets must be submitted in electronic form using .pdf, format.  (Letters that the departments receive must be scanned into the packet in the .pdf format.) Required documents are listed below. Scan the documents into one pdf file in the order listed below. Save the file with the nominated student’s name. Students may not self-nominate; departments are asked to nominate a single student for the award.

  1. Completed nomination form
  2. Letter from Director of Graduate Studies or Department Chair
  3. Three to six additional letters of evaluation from:
    1. faculty
    2. graduate student colleagues and/or undergraduate students.  At least one letter must be from an undergraduate student
  4. Candidate's resume or curriculum vitae.

NO ADDITIONAL MATERIALS MAY BE SUBMITTED!

Nominations due: February 15 (if February 15 falls on a weekend, the due date will be the following Monday)

Graduate Research Assistant Award

Nomination Requirements

  • Future promise as a researcher
  • Originality; imagination
  • Satisfactory progress toward a degree
  • Research mentoring to peers and/or undergraduates
